David Gilmour – On An Island

Bought brand new sealed from an independent seller. Jacket and sleeve are both from excellent quality. The included poster is also a nice touch. My copy is mostly flat and well centered. Some small tics here and there and some pops, which can be a tiny bit annoying on a few ages (there is some noticeable surface noise and non-fill on A3), but it doesn’t ruin the overall experience IMO. Great presence and wide soundstage. The drums can sound a tiny bit laidback in the mix on A4 (nitpicking there), but the overall mixing is very well done. Great album! 4.7 / 5

I would say that the AOL section of the DVD is pretty disappointing, unless you want to watch a band rehearsal. And I say this after having been present at an actual David Gilmour rehearsal in Brighton recently, where at least the lighting & visual guys were also rehearsing and doing their thing; here Is just a band playing, as thrilling as old men can be!

Wonderfully quiet and flat pressing, and overall a much superior package than my original 2006 CD copy. Definitely a post-Floyd album of Gilmour's, and all the better for it. Reflective and atmospheric with Gilmour's signature sound, a laid-back atmosphere, and the sounds are expansive and meticulously captured, thanks to engineer Andy Jackson. Guest appearances from artists like David Crosby and Graham Nash.

There needs to be a 5.1 version of this. This is Gilmour's best album hands down and its worthy of being a Pink Floyd album.

I've generally thought this sounded pristine, and generally it does, but upon listening with headphones I did notice some "shh" sounds on the Ss. But that's about the only complain. I enjoy the thicker, larger gatefold which makes it stand out a bit in the shelf.

A plodding, boring, pretentious and dreary offering from Gilmour. A rehash of older melodies and themes in part, and not very well done. Great quality pressing and packaging, although the heavy card gatefold was easily torn if you were a little rough. I sold mine on because I just wasn't interested in any of the tracks or even an intended concept behind it all, even if this existed.

I was worried about getting this one due to comments about noise and crackling considering the significant quietness of this great album. Maybe I got lucky, but my copy is absolutely pristine. No unwanted noise anywhere. Not a pop, click, or crackle anywhere. It sounds fantastic with every instrument well-defined. The volume is a little low, but that's a pretty easy fix as I have a volume knob.

I’ve had this awhile and hadn’t listened to it for sometime so gave it a spin. Such a great mellow and obvious Floyd-esque album. Still like Rattle That Lock as my favorite Gilmour solo release, but this one is a close second. Wish David and Nick would hit the road for some US tour dates as I’d love to see them perform. I’m not spending a dime to see the prick Waters.

Great mid-range energy on this pressing! A nice and chill listening experience. Vocals and guitar stand out, percussion seems a bit set back on most of the tracks.
