Edited one month agoWas pleasantly surprised, this sounds great to me. I have two Ozzie first pressings -2 -1 and it’s very warm and I love this version, a htm uk -4 -3 1973 and that is nice rich sound too , the Giles Martin remix which the first 5 songs sound amazing then it’s almost unlistenable, this version definitely holds up too all these and currently is my fav. I’ve only heard bad about it mainly because it’s digitally sourced and sometimes that can make it sound lifeless. This is fantastic great bass , I’ve never heard drums sound as good and the guitars bite.

I don't understand the praise for the fidelity of this album. It has always sounded muddy and unimpressive to me, even now on my high end setup. I've only ever heard the 2009/2012 remaster, though (and remix). Is it that bad? I'm a fan of all of the other masters in the lineup.
Also, this is really quiet mastering. Quiter than the other 2012s. I have to really crank this thing. -
Edited one year agoNone of my 2012 copies has surface noise as others have identified.
Lately I compared this one against the original UK, a later HTM from an 80's Blue Box and the Japanese AP-pressing and I expected to hear a drop in quality, but, to my surprise, I liked the 2012 best.
Bass is excellent, very well balanced and nice and warm. Treble is nicely defined without any distortions. Vocals are very clear and realistic. Overall impression is that of a relaxed, grown up mastering. -
found a cheap and clean copy of this. no real surface noise or qc issues with mine. separation of instruments and clarity seems good but this remaster really lacks dynamism. has very little punch to it. too much compression as others have said. will be looking to replace this copy eventually
-
I detest the Giles Martin mix, and find this pressing far more immersive. It has a live feel about it, which gets lost in the 2019 edition. Pressing is hit and miss - I’ve had to try a few copies to get a clean one, but once you have one, it’s a keeper.
-
Sounds really good to me despite other reviews in comparison to other reissues. I have not compared to the 2019, so I can’t really say. Happy not comparing.

The 2019 pressing is far superior to this one. I don't regret replacing this one and will trade it in at my first opportunity. My 2012 copy had too much surface noise and the sound lacks the clarity and richness of the 2019 release.

I agree with the reviewer below me. Steer clear of this reissue, and pick up either a 70s or 80s UK reissue cut by HTM. An original -2/-1 is incredible too, but those can be hard to find In NM/EX condition for a decent price. This 2012 reissue based on the 2009 remasters just isn't up to par. It isn't horrendous by any means, but it is far from great. (It is still better than any US pressing though, haha!) Everything feels very limited and "leashed." Hear this album unleashed with an all-analog pressing!
