I got this as a replacement for my first ever copy, a beat up original mono pressing. the original probably sounds better, but to my ears this is a good record. i might be comparing apples to oranges, and i have to keep in mind that i compared it to a worn record, but on my system it sounds nice! And at a fair price.

By all standards, this is a great and flawless pressing, so nothing to worry about there...
But this is made from a digital master and sounds flat and lifeless, compared to any analog stereo pressings from the 60's and 70's. Of course this album always sounded better in mono, so my best advice is getting the -5/-5 mono pressing. -
I thought it was okish till I heard the hazel yarwood -5-5 pressing. That is another level and compared to that, this sounds very ordinary

Edited 4 months agoVery happy with this pressing. I also have an original Canadian Mono pressing, and a Japanese EAS. I actually prefer this one out of the three. If you want to spend tons of money, you can look for another pressing, but this is the most balanced I’ve heard that is still affordable. Every pressing of RS seems to have their various issues, and this one corrects most of them - albeit from a digital source. I haven’t heard the 2014 mono pressing.

Edited 6 months agoAs noted, compressed and 'fake stereo'. But, flat and clean German press. I could play this as my go to copy-sparing my monos- BUT for the fact that "Drive Ny Car" and "What Goes On" do not belong on Rubber Soul. They were released as a single on my '65 OG's.

Compressed to hell. I only bought it because it comes from the 1987 remix by George Martin (like Help!) and I didn't have that one on vinyl. It lacks the power of the mono edition (2014). Sadly it comes from the same digital master they used for the 2009 CDs... It's a shame! The pressing and packaging are excellent, the record comes very clean and shiny, and has no noise whatsoever. It's a shame the sound is so poor.

Sounds absolutely gorgeous. The mix is still fiddly, but it has a lot more depth and liveliness compared to the original stereo, making it sound full despite the hard panning. The mono is definitely still the way to go until we get another remix (the recent red mixes sound amazing), but this isn't a bad option at all and I like it as an alternate experience.
