3.5 stars for content 4 stars for sound quality. Let's start with sound quality. Quiet surface although my 2nd hand copy has a few paper scuffs from the over tight inners that didn't affect play. Excellent low-mid end but woefully lacking in treble compared to the CD. No distortion heard (mentioned in other comments). Heavy vinyl (180g?) and completely flat. Good thick card for sleeve but a little tight. Matt surface looks like its made to get shelf wear. Musically better than their previous couple of albums but not up to "A Funk Odyssey". Typical spot-the-70s-funk-disco-track-influence game to play on most tracks (except Fast Persuader which reminds me of the 90s New Order's Spooky). Album seems to peter out a bit through sides C & D after a solid start and middle but can't be that bad as I already have the CD and forked out the princely sum of 9.99GBP in a local charity shop for this vinyl (yep there's still bargains out there).

I was hoping that this Euro pressing would be better than the US pressing that I already had... and it is better in every way but sound quality. I was not impressed by the lack of punch in the mastering of the US version, but it was still a solid pressing the whole way through with no actual issues. This Euro pressing seems to have the same or similar mastering with the same lack of punch, but it also exhibits fairly bad distortion and decline in fidelity as each side progresses toward the end, which the US version did not do. The quality of the vinyl and packaging is far beyond that of the US version with heavier weight vinyl that is cleaner looking and feeling, nicer center labels, and a much nicer jacket. It is just a shame that the sound quality could not have been better than or at least on par with the US version. I even had to wet scrub the LPs before playing them, because there were a great amount of white specks cemented into the grooves right out of the package. Anyway, I would recommend skipping this version and going with the 2012 US Reissue.

Edited 5 years agoThis is were I stopped buying their stuff. Dynamite was unsatisfactory and the horrible dark cover where he pretends to live in a ghetto, when he lives in a mansion and collects super cars kids! Essential Jamiroqui is the first 4 albums for me, but even TWM had a few duffers on it, such as the woeful Driftin Along where he pretends to be Bob Marleys son!

Edited 6 years agoAgreed the mastering is very good and big improvement over CD. However just like other GZ vinyl media pressings I have, its dirty right out the cellophane, has surface marks and the lead in on all 4 side is crackly and noisy. Which is not surprising, if you google GZ Vinyl on You Tube you can see a promo of their factory, its like something from the 1980's soviet union....... awful conditions. and you can hear it on their vinyl.....
