I was eying up a copy of this in my local secondhand record shop. I couldn’t resist any longer and purchased it for $30NZ which I thought was a bargain considering it’s $68 new in JB Hi-Fi.
Got it home, played it and was very disappointed. It’s louder through the left speaker and I have to adjust the balance knob to accomodate. This is the first record I’ve had to do this for.
Otherwise, Jazz is boss. -

Avoid this 75th Anniversary pressing. Blue Note just reissued "The Sidewinder" album again as part of their latest vinyl reissue campaign, monikered "Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series". This new reissue is superior to the 75th Anniversary copy.

Edited 4 years agoI must have gotten lucky. (which is certainly not the case most of the time). My copy has a very slight warp but is centered and plays beautifully with very little background noise and two, maybe three pops throughout the entire album. Which I can live with for the price I paid.

Received my copy today. I wish I would have seen these reviews before I purchased it, in addition to the warping creating an audible "Whoosh" sound, my copy is also off-center. It is unlistenable and I am sending it back. Also upon opening, the inner sleeve was not glued on one side. Horrible quality control. To be avoided.

Edited 5 years agoMy copy plays wonderfully on my set up. No cracks or pops. Not a bit of surface noise. I did use a static brush to get any debris off the record before I spun it. Great purchase for the money. A fun and exciting album.

I must say that my (brand new) copy didn’t play great at first and needed a really good clean. Maybe it was just static? Whatever, it now plays just fine and i’m very pleased with the sound quality.
