Here we have an amazing John Coltrane album and this Blue Note 75 reissue sounds great. Maybe not so good as Tone Poet, but it sounds great.
-
I have this as well as the tone poet stereo. I also have a high end system to test both on. I have to say, this isn’t bad! My wife who doesn’t listen to as much music was brought in for her review, she said the difference between the two was there but wasn’t an earth shattering difference. I have to agree

Edited one year agoI owned 75 anny pressing of this album for few years and thought it sounded OK, until I got the Tone Poet version few months ago - my oh my, the difference is truly noticeable, especially if you have a decent system at home. The 75 edition definitely adds that digital artifact, especially noticeable on high end frequencies and simply sound flat overall. The Tone Poet Stereo pressing gave it another dimension where you don't hear the left and right channel separation but the music comes from the middle and from the back of the speakers and the bass now hits deeper. Truly spectacular job by Kevin Gray, thanks Joe Harley for selecting this album for Tone Poet even though you said you won't be releasing any of the BN titles you already did as part of your Music Matters pressings in the past.

Contrary to a few reviewers, this is an great pressing! A lot of the 75th pressing were hit or miss, not this one. I got it when it first came out. If you bought old store stock and it’s warped, maybe they store them poorly! It’s as good if not the same as the latest Tone Poet! Save your money get this one!

My copy sounds great, I changed the inner sleeve, but except that everything is fine with this pressing.

Edited 2 years agoMaybe lucky but my copy is flawless, but clearly cut from a Digital source. For the money not bad. Looking forward to getting the Blue Note all Analogue Mono and Stereo versions to compare. 👍

Edited 11 months agoStraight outa the sleeve it sounds fantastic. Not even a wet clean required. Beautiful dynamics and separation. After an ultrasonic clean this record is silent! What an amazing pressing!

My copy sound really nice, only a bit of quiet surface noise is noticeable when listened to through headphones and the music more than overpowers it most of the time. The occasional pop or tick doesn't bother me considering the price. The mastering on the music itself is excellent, clear, deep and punchy. I'd recomend picking it up if you can get it play tested.

Listen, not everyone can afford as OGC or Analog Production copy. For $20 bills this is not a bad record. Mine is also flat and fairly quiet. It’s all about the music right.
