This is a very nice sounding sax quartet record from Dexter Gordon, accompanied by Philly Joe, Kenny Drew, and Mr PC. Dexter's uptempo work is exciting, but where he really shines are the ballads. He plays a touching ballad.
There's some excellent playing by everybody on this record. Great sounding recording, engineered by RVG himself. Good pressing. -
Edited 14 years agoSolid Dex record, despite the ambiguity of its origin. Although the photo appears to date from c. 1972, given the shirt he's wearing, which also makes an appearance on the back cover of GENERATION, also from a live show.
From sleeve: Up Front Records, a product of Springboard International Records (Rahway, New Jersey)
