Just to chime in on the bootleg debate, i bought my copy at the Hot Topic in the mall where i’m from when i was probably 15.

I purchased my copy new from Red Trumpet (online major reseller back in 90s and 2000s). Sound quality is great. Reading this forum, sounds like its a licensing issue:

It does have the "Emerson Torso", maybe that was issue? Been some push to move back to legitimate release.

I really enjoy the sound of this mono pressing. It has such a distinct feel in comparison to the stereo mix, I think this album should be listened to in mono. Big shame the mono mix is not in print, to the point where it’s debated as to if this is a bootleg or not. Oh well, I like it. The label is so obviously cheap as its blue shade is spotty and can be either dark or light in areas. However, the music is what matters. The noise of the record is super distracting even though my copy is very clean, but i was still able to enjoy the music.

This is a really good mono reissue, I have a 1975 Verve pressing that is mono and this one comes very close.
Get it if you see it in the wild. -
Bootleg or not, if I'm to let my ears and not my eyes judge this I'd have to say it's a pretty amazing issue.

Found this today new at a local shop. Looks and sounds good. I don't know what to think about it's legitimacy, it's a quality pressing, done at Rainbo in California. Do bootlegs usually have the pressing plant info? I honestly don't know. The artwork omitting Nico on the back is weird. There must be a deeper explanation.
Anyway, it sounds good and I got it for a regular price. -
Edited 4 years agoSo, is the belief that this is an analog pressing from a mono master tape? maybe something that was done unofficially? i am listening to it now and it sounds unbelievably good.
