Dieser Mann hat die Dance-Musik auf den Kopf gestellt und damit revolutioniert. Tranceartig fängt es in „Right here, right now“ an, dann folgen aber schon luftige Beats, die zum Bewegen anregen. Mit „The Rockafeller skank“ ist der BigBeat-Klassiker schlechthin vertreten, da die Sampler perfekt gemischt sind und die Sirene ist eh obercool. Wie kann man mit einem einzigen Satz wie „Fatboy Slim is fucking in heaven“ nur so einen genialen Song wie „Fucking in heaven“ kreieren? Genau wie bei „Gangster tripping“, dessen Refrain sich in dein Hirn brennt und dort Reaktionen wie Schmunzeln, Kopfnicken und -schütteln hervorruft. Ein warmer Acid-Regen geht bei „Build it up – tear it down“ auf uns nieder, gemischt mit einer Soulstimme. In „Kalifornia“ kommen Kraftwerk-Stimmen zum Einsatz, die mit knochentrockenen Elektro- und Acid-Attacken gepaart sind. BigBeat mit Rap-Elementen bietet uns Fatboy Slim in „You´re not from Brighton“ und in „Praise you“ erwärmt er uns, ähnlich wie Moby, mit House und einem Soulsampler das Herz. Nostalgisch wird es in „Love island“, das mich irgendwie an Snap und sonstige 90er-Dance-Mucke erinnert. Wie der Titel „Acid 8000“ schon verrät, wird hier Acid aufgetischt, der bis auf das lang gezogene Ende, eigentlich der einzige „normale“ Song auf dieser Platte darstellt.
Kleine Randbemerkung: Viele einzelne Hits, aber als Ganzes schwer konsumierbar. -
This is a very good release for those of you who enjoy good housey stuff that'll make your toes tap. He goes sample crazy on a lot of the songs, but that seems to be his style. The over-usage of samples might get slightly tiresome, but the album has a lot of memorable points on it. 'The Rockafeller Skank' and 'Praise You' (the album's two singles) are both defiantely very good tracks, although the former goes on a bit too long. A good solid 7/10.
