Got my copy today. No surface noise, voices aren’t sibilant and no inner groove distortion, no clicks!
Both Vinyls are quiet with great dynamics and staging!
NO COMPLAINS. Just as you would expect from
This Mortal Coil! -
Edited 3 months agoEDIT: Fortunately, my record shop was willing to take my copy back and order a fresh one. First thing I noticed was that this copy wasnt as tightly sealed. And, both records came out dead flat! In fact, both records turned out to sound lovely! None of the below meantioned defects could I find on this pressing. I definitely recommend getting this record, just like the first two TMC albums.
Old review:
First, right off the bat, my copy is extremely warped! It came tightly sealed and I had the feeling it might be warped before even opening it. Sad, but nothing I can do about it. There's a fair amount of surface noise on the a side. 'Mr Somewhere' has a couple of clicks too many, and they're not exactly subtle. 'Severeal Times' on the b side is almost unlistenable due to inner groove distortion. There's no point in going into every detail, but the overall experience is not too good. If it were only a bit of sibilant distortion, it would have been fine. Sad, because the first two instalments of TMC turned out better. -
I used to have an original vinyl copy back when they were cheaper than import CD editions ($10 for vinyl, $20 for CD) I getting rid of it for a cd when I tired of hearing constant sibilance and inner groove distortion, especially on ‘You and Your Sister’. I bought this reissue based on how well I enjoyed the remasters of the other TMC releases. The sound quality is great on this release but the sibilance remains, although to a lesser degree. Also, my copy is marred by excessive non-fill that is all over both sides of record two.

referencing Blood (CD, HDCD, Album, Limited Edition, Reissue, Remastered, Cardboard Sleeve) CAD 3X06CDJ
The packaging of this release is beautiful. Shiny robust cardboard sleeves, and the lyrics information booklet stored opposite the CD. If you don't yet know the beauty of this music, then I suggest you explore. This is a Japanese HDCD, and it sounds absolutely stunning through my HiFi. Is it because it's HDCD, or simply because it was well recorded and mixed? Whatever the reason this is a gem in my collection. -
Very sibilant voices especially on You and your sister. No discussion that this is a pressing fault.
-
All three of these remastered vinyls are excellent in of how they sound and that's really all that matters. Mine are quiet with great dynamics and staging. Revel in that amazing emotion.
My petty gripes are that you'd think after all these years 4AD would know how to make an album cover big enough to fit the records...geez. I will eventually damage the covers and the vinyls just trying to get them in and out...wow. Oh, and all three of my copies are warped, but playable. Ugh. -
Agree with all comments this is a great sounding press and re-master very dynamic and wide on quiet vinyl
-
Sounds perfect to me. One of those rare, perfect albums from start to finish. People here complaining about pressing quality probably need to clean their gear a little bit before assuming poor sound is the record’s fault.
-
Quiet vinyl and the music sounds great, but voices are extremely sibilant, almost unlistenable. Played it with 3 different cartridges/stylus and it's really bad on all of them. A real shame.
-
Recently sorted my record collection and 3 albums are missing...take a moment and think how that feels.
This is one of them, gutted does not match the torment.
I wasn't prepared to replace my original for £80...so I bought this.
I am amazed how I can tell the difference. Nice job.
So much I'm tempted to buy the other 2015 vinyl remasters.
TMC is what keeps my soul from dying,
