Tool's fifth full length album, originally released August 30 2019.
CD versions have 7 songs and are slightly over 79 minutes long.
Digital versions have 10 songs (they include 'Litanie Contre La Peur', 'Legion Inoculant' and 'Mockingbeat', which are not included on the CD) and are slightly under 87 minutes long.
The official vinyl LP versions have 9 songs (they include 'Legion Inoculant' and 'Mockingbeat', which are not included on the CD) and are roughly 84 and a half minutes long.
The special limited edition CD has three (3) variant packaging available:
- Variant 1 (Priest Upright):
Full glossy cover with 7-sided geometric pattern on back, points of pattern ends in 14 solid circles.
- Variant 2 (Priest Bowing):
Matte finish with 9-sided geometric pattern on back, no solid circles at points, sides have a gloss geometric repeating pattern.
- Variant 3 (Danny's Drum Kit/Adam's Mural):
Glossy cover with dark elements in matte and 6-sided fractal star on back, eyes centered in star points, silver on black geometric repeating pattern on sides.
Due to the inclusion of a 4 inch video screen as part of the inside cover 'artwork', the physical edition is 4 times the price of an ordinary CD.
As of February 2022 the only CD release to not have the screen is the EU expanded book editions.
In 2022 the album was officially released on vinyl for the first time. The first official vinyl version made available was the ultra deluxe 5LP boxset, when copies signed by the band were sold exclusively at Tool shows from February 20 2022. The ultra deluxe 5LP boxset was subsequently made available unsigned in stores in April 2022, followed by a standard 3LP release in August 2022.

Edited 10 days agoI went through 2, maybe 3 of the 3xLP sets and couldn't find one that sounded clean. Even after heavy duty cleaning, the records still had surface noise. I bought one box of this 5xLP set and each (playable) side was perfect and clean. -

Pretty irritating for those of us who got tricked into flipping 5 records w/ that box set, when there was gonna be a 2-3 lp version coming, and for (now) the SAME PRICE -
Packaging is heavy duty but beware, if you put too much pressure on the spine it will come unstuck.

Edited one month agoAll these pretentious, negative reviews… Tsk Tsk… think about what these men have just given you. And all you do is bitch?
This is a system demo album for years to come. The press is flawless and so is the RL/BG/CB mastering (and sounds one hell of a lot better than the 3LP pisschrist Jose Serrano wankfest cover edition- don’t be cheap, it’s TOOL). The included artwork? The time and effort that it’s taken to produce this? Where else are you going to get this? This is TOOL. We are adults now and we can afford this wonderful gift to ourselves and our families.
Accept it and be happy to be alive to appreciate and enjoy it. At some of the retail prices this is going for? You bet your sweet ass you better snatch it up. If you don’t? It becomes the Zeppelin road case. It becomes the GNR Appetite box- Gone, unless you have $1000s to spare on such a thing.
Do yourself a favor and pull the trigger on this. You won’t regret it, even slightly. -

This record catches your ear from the first second, because it sounds unbelievably good. Drums are powerful, guitar and bass sharp as a knife. So much better than the digital version, a true listening experience. Not my favorite tool record, but the best sounding one for sure. I wish Lateralus sounded like this. -
sound quality is incredible once you give it a thorough cleaning. problem is i have owned two different copies of this and both of them had a massive problem. disc 2 is pressed off center, making side D nearly unplayable. maybe someday i will find a copy without this issue but right now this pressing stands as a massive disappointment -
Jesus Christ cut this record using a feather and Satan's blood. It is absolutely the loudest and most dynamic record I own. Almost beats my MOV Alice in Chains Unplugged. When I lifted the needle at the end of the record I swear it was smoking. -
Very nice copy not sure why the picture Discogs has faded out blue not different than any of the other sleeves.
