This sizzles. Fine job by Kevin Gray per usual. This one really is essential for anyone looking to pick up jazz. The cymbals and flutes and vocal harmonies all just ring out so clear. The music, of course, is brimming with soul. Gateway drug.

This pressing absolutely smokes. Haven't compared against anything else, but man, you might as well be sitting at the mixing board listening to this. Reference quality, and I haven't even mentioned the music yet - just a phenomenal example of the Mizell bros sound. Wonderfully lush, relaxed, funky stuff. You feel 50% cooler with this on. Incredible value for the price - highly highly recommend. -

Solid sounding vinyl. I'm deep into my obsession with everything the Mizell Brothers produced and this is a masterpiece example of their output. Soul. Jazz. Funk. Other examples. Black Byrd by Donald Byrd. Also Donald Byrd @ Montreaux on Blue Note. Johnny Hammond. Gears. and more and more. -

Wow.... amazed by the flat, non fill free vinyl. Unusual for this series.
The recording is one BN best and the mastering is on point.
Highly recommended even if a Tone Poet edition could be better still! -
If you like Blacks and blues, you will LOVE another Mizell production of "Black Byrd" By Donald Byrd.

Harlem River Drive is a great build with a nice ARP synthesizer line at the end. Some excellent tight snappy drumming on this record, in fact it’s very much that jazz funk style drumming everyone’s playing these days (2023).
