I just opened a sealed copy of this and it sounds really great, no noise or skips etc. the edges as noted by others are rough in places but that doesn’t affect playback. Color’s lovely too

This pressing although a gorgeous color is horribly pressed. The edges are not cut properly. It skips randomly and recently on one of my two discs a crack appeared.

The vinyl is really quiet, but I wish more care would've been taken with the mastering, especially when it comes to Solange's vocals. If the sound they were going for was mid-range, pre-'80s production, they got it (and that's totally okay, punk vinyl records have that sound, and it's perfect for their stuff). The vocals and bass feel really compressed on a song like "Cranes in the Sky," where every element should really stand out and feel dynamic--like you can hear various parts floating in and out of the track. This is one of the greatest soul records of the 2010s, so I hope someday someone makes the effort to give it the vinyl mastering it deserves.

(I'm not just being stingy. Check out the Amazon reviews for the vinyl version of this album, and most are two to three stars or less. If you compare this version to the Spotify high quality streaming, that version also sounds much less compressed, and better than this purple vinyl pressing.)

I know this is a digital-era album, and we shouldn't expect too much, but if you compare the compressed sound of this album to a similar-era record like Janelle Monae's "Electric Lady," the differences are night and day. Someone could've taken the time at Colombia to make Solange's voice sound like she is singing right to you on the vinyl.

Mine sounds fantastic on the purple wax. Not a single extra noise to be found.

I've seen more purple versions at Urban lately, so they might have done a second pressing. Worth a look if you want the special edition. Mine plays perfectly.

I have owned the purple pressing and the standard black pressing and the standard press is FAR superior to the purple edition... Very noisy pressing on the purple one sadly...

Anyone have a rating on the pressing? Love the color but haven't heard anything on how it sounds
