This is all you need. Beautiful rendition of this record. Howie/Masterdisk magic. Definitive, easily.

This album really has to get a double LP reissue. Cramming 19 songs on one just too challenging for cutters and pressing plants that don’t have the right skills or raw materials. Agree with comments about the Czech pressing. Shameful. I keep looking for clean old copies until we finally get an audiophile 2xLP. .

My copy has the EAST on side A with only ET showing clearly. Everything else matches perfectly. Sounds Fantastic!

When everyone says “it doesn’t sound perfect” what the actual f*ck does that mean. Do any of us know how Tom waits intended it to sound ? It is an actual diamond scraping across a piece of vinyl. It’s a damned miracle to me if there isn’t any noise. It should be expected that there may be surface noise of some kind. I’ve been collecting for 40 plus years and I’ve never heard such inane blathering about pops and ticks on vinyl. Assume it’s going to happen and be overjoyed if it doesn’t. That’s my rant. 10 words

One of the greatest albums of all time! Jockey Full of Bourbon is the favorite song of all cool people.

I got my pre-order on for the new RE! Out September 1st here in the States! Woohoo! Finally. I've had Swordfishtrombones OG pressing for years, but could never find an OG copy of this for a reasonable price until now, woohoo! I have a feeling it's going to sound epic.

Tom’s 12 July ‘23 newsletter: The good - Universal will reissue his Island Records catalog ~ Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs, Frank’s Wild Years, Bone Machine, and The Black Rider ~ on CD and on vinyl this Fall. Limited edition coloured vinyl options, too. The bad - the remastering is, again, being overseen by Tom and Kathleen Brennan. Expect the same veiled, shaved-highs sonics as presented in the Asylum reissues.
Update: Chris Bellman digitally remastered from the original tapes. Good chance these remasters will sound better than the Asylum catalog reissues. -
This pressing sounds absolutely fantastic. The album that got me into Tom Waits to begin with and remains a sentimental favorite.
-
this desperately needs a proper repress or reissue from Island (or someone). resell prices are too high for this classic.

The mastering on this record is perfect for my ear. Tom is front and center and everything is perfectly balanced, crisp and full at the same time. I’ve wished for a reissue for many years, but I’m not sure how they could improve much on this version. One of my treasured belongings.
