Released for free for one day only on August 20, 2016 at four "pop-up" locations in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and London.
Contains a 360-page magazine "Boys Don't Cry (Issue 1 / Album 3)" with three variant covers and a CDr containing an MP3 version of the album.
The album differs in two ways from other versions. It contains a verse by rapper Kohh at the end of "Nikes" and lacks a verse by Ocean over the distorted guitar intro of "Pretty Sweet."
The reprint of the magazine sold on Ocean's website in late 2016, Frank Ocean - Blonde, contains a normal CD edition of the album without these differences.
The magazine includes contributions from Viviane Sassen among others, and features a list of 44 album contributors.

Is there a way to tell the difference of a sealed copy of this and a sealed copy of the re-release? -
I have been able to compare an original pop up store version (2016) with some of the reprints (2019).
As noted, the CD is a different format with alternative versions of “Nikes” and “Pretty Sweet”.
Previously not noted, (1) the colouration is a little different (more of a greenish hue), and (2) there are no matrix runout codes. Finally, (3) the disc is held in the magazine not by a little “rubber button” as in the reprints, but by something more like what you find in the centre of a jewel case (terminology?) -
Can anyone with the OG version confirm, that the only distinguishing feature of this release from the reprints are the different versions of NIKES and PRETTY SWEET?
Follow up, can anyone confirm, that all the original pop-up store versions came with these variants, or did any come with the "current" streaming version of the album?
Asking mainly as there are so many folks out there claiming to have the "1st edition" or "original printing 2016" version, but they clearly have reprints -

Edited 4 years agoI think the magazine that's been available since Black Friday has a pressed CD instead of a CD-ROM like the original mag. If that's the case I'll add a new release here.

I've seen three different cover variations of the magazine. I also played my CD and it came with the generic tracklist (same as online). Anyone else encounter this with their CD? I was hoping for the alternate tracklisting :-/ -
This marketing and exclusivity in four cities only is real 1% BS, which I thought dudes like him were against. I thought wrong.
