Edited 18 years agoA huge hit and deservedly so. 'What Time Is Love' had been floating around in one form or another for quite a while before it finally blazed its way into the public consciousness.
This record stands out by its seamless use of a variety of disparate samples and its use of acid which had already become unfashionable by the summer of 1990. It also showed early signs of hypnotic production that indeed was later dubbed as 'trance'.
In particular, watch out for the middle section where the track is stripped down to just the beats - possibly the most perfect House groove ever.
