Noises as interruptions of musical language. Disturbing defiance against accepted melodies. Noises as psychedelic medium to ecstatic trip into our mind, far away from reality. Even in popular rock, noise had got subversive intentions. Shoegaze movement overturned this conception and created an oxymoron. An indissoluble marriage of harmony and dissonance. Noises had never been so pleasant, sweet and delicate before Loveless coming out. A chaotic wave of guitar s generates an enveloping wall of sound that deforms the shape of songs as in a damaged tape. The result? Romantic as the remembrance of our adolescence. My Bloody Valentine music (son of The Jesus and Mary Chain reinterpretation of post-punk) never stuns, disturbs or provokes: its intent is to arouse the feminine side of alternative rock.

Edited 19 years agoI'm not going to bother writing a long winded description about what a classic album this is. It's been said a million times and rightly so. I'll keep it short and sweet. To me this is the perfect expression of those heart wrenching feelings you experience when you're in the grip of being in love. A deeply sexy, sensual masterpiece.

It's been over 12 years since its release, I still how it turned my concept of _music_ upside down the day I first listened to it. Never before (nor after) had anyone created a gigantic wall of distorted guitar noises that sounds so ethereal and soothing. Play it as loud as you can and put your head into the speakers, you'll feel like swimming in a whirl of sound (chemical assistance recommended). This is most certainly my favorite album of the '90s. I still listen to it regularly.

If you have ever wondered what the word 'multi-layered' meant in practical then I suggest you listen to the first track on this album - it makes you really wonder if you are actually sleeping or have just woken up.
