Edited 6 months ago2nd Album Revolution #3:
It is 1979...The "Disco Movement" was still in SUPER FULL BLOOM, and EVERYBODY who was ANYBODY had a "Disco" Record..."The Bee Gees" was RULING, but you also had SUPERGROUP "Chic" and also "Sister Sledge" with the "Disco Anthem", "We Are Family".....
"Isaac Hayes" has been part of the "Disco Movement" since 1975...Thing is, his offerings to the Movement have been UP and Down to say the least...But, when he signed to "Polydor Records" in '77, he got his "Disco Mojo" back with ts like, "Out Of The Ghetto" and "Zeke The Freak", as well as reminding Folks that he was still one of the KINGS of the Slow Jams!!!!
So after 2 GREAT albums in a ROW, we have his BEST "Polydor" album in: "Don't Let Go"....
This ULTIMATE BOMB CROWN JEWEL album PROVED that the Music World WOULD NOT be COMPLETE without an "Isaac Hayes" in it...He, also OF COURSE has to have his "Isaac Hayes Movement" and "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited" along for the RIDE!!!! From start to finish, you would NOT be able to take the needle OFF the Record!!!!
The album starts of with the BUMPIN' "Title Track"...The "Jesse Stone" penned Classic got a TOTAL "Isaac Hayes Movement Arrangement", "Disco" MAKEOEVER!!!!! From start to finish, you were MOVING YOUR FEET and SHAKIN' YOUR BOOTY!!!!! Even having "Ike's" Vocals LOWER than USUAL, just ADDED to the allure of this BANGING t!!!! It was also "Ike's" HIGHEST Charted t on his "Polydor" Parade (#2 "R&B", #13 "POP").....
"What Does It Take" COOLS things down, by it doesn't TAKE IT OUT!!!! This BOMB, just adds to the point that the needle wasn't COMING OFF!!!!! That DIRTY Bass Line along with the RIGHTEOUS Melody, and Guitars, was just OMG!!!! On top of that, you (AS USUAL) have "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited" being that VITAL INGREDIENT, ESPECIALLY at the ENDING!!!!
"A Few More Kisses To Go" though.....OMG!!!!! ANOTHER BOMB!!!!
All this t did was, again PROVED that "Ike" was one of the KINGS of the Slow Jams!!!! The Strings and Subtle Horns were the STARS of this t!!!! So much so that, "Mr. Reggie Noble himself, Redman" had to have it Sampled for his "Hip-Hop" Classic, "Tonight's Da Night" from his album, "Whut? Thee Album" in 1992....
Next, the 2nd side starts us back on the "Disco Dancefloor" with the "Eddie Cooley, John Davenport, Little Willie John" Classic, "Fever"....Again, a BUMPIN' FOCUSED "Disco" t, it just MAKES you want to GET DOWN!!!!! This is 8 minutes of doing "THE BUMP" and doing the "Disco TWIRL"....Even if I don't feel like Dancin', it brings about my "Isaac D. Body Sways"!!!!! PRICELESS!!!!!
Ending this FANTASTIC album is the BOMB in, "Someone Who Will Take The Place Of You"....This 10 minute OPUS continues the "Slow Jam KING's" ability to end an album on a RIGHTEOUS note!!! The Piano/Subtle Keyboard Melody just FLOATS around "Ike's" HUSKY Vocals, and of course ED by "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited"...One day, I was riding Home listening to this, and even though I drove up to the House, I REFUSED to get out of the Car until it was FINISHED!!!!! (Yeah, it's that GOOD!!!!)
This album was "Isaac's" PINNACLE of his 2nd HEADAY!!!! This did SO MUCH BETTER than he HOPED for!!!!! This was ANOTHER reason to get NEW Fans, while the Faithful Fans said: "We TOLD YOU SO"!!!!!! This just CONTINUED to make "Ike" MORE HUNGRY to provide MORE Music for us!!!!!
PS: Now with this album, I would suggest a 2 or 3 LP Re-Issue...Reason being that "Big Break Records" Released an Expanded Version in 2012...It included PLENTLY of Extra Tracks: "Don't Let Go (12'' Disco Version)", "A Few More Kisses To Go (12'' Long Version)", "Someone Who Will Take The Place Of You (Single Version)", "Don't Let Go (Single Version)" and "A Few More Kisses To Go (Single Version)"....
It also has a "B-side" to the Single of the "Title Track" in to form of "You Can't Hold Your Woman"...THIS WAS THE BOMB!!!!! Why wasn't it on the album IS BEYOND MY UNDERSTANDING!!!! It starts with a RIGHTEOUS Keyboard and Guitar....Then just goes into a PERFECT String Guitar Groove, complete with FANTASTIC Strings and Horns, along with a story of a Guy missing his Woman...I have this on 45, but like I said, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE ALBUM!!!!! Just Sayin'.....
