Edited one year agoAlbum Revolution #7:
You would think that after just having one album with "Columbia Records", "Lamont Dozier" would have called it quits....He must have had a strong resolve, because just in one year (on the small "M&M Records" label), "Lamont" released his "Lamont" album....
Still beaming with confidence, the first song in "You Oughta Be In Pictures" (the 1st Crown Jewel), has "Lamont" in his Mid Tempo Mode, with that Raspy delivery of his...The cord changes is also a nice touch as well...
"Never Had It So Good" is a faster banger, showing that "Lamont" was not afraid of the '80's......The Drums and Bass really keeps this t in the pocket, which makes it the 2nd Crown Jewel....
The 3rd Crown Jewel, "I Ain't Playing", is another Mid Tempo, Bass heavy t, that plays right into "Lamont's" strengths (the Guitars and Background Vocals are nice too)....
The 4th Crown Jewel, "I See You" continues to display "Lamont's" ability to deliver a righteous Slow Jam....It was Synthesizer heavy, but with it's fantastic Melody, it didn't detract from it....
"The Pressure Is On" is a nice Groovy t, but I just felt like it sounded like everything out there at the time....
That also went for "Shout About It"....Even though it is a tad better than "The Pressure Is On", it just missed Crown Jewel status....
The album does get back focused with the 5th Crown Jewel, "Locked Into You"....This Synthesizer laid track, is perfect for that Raspy registry of "Lamont's"!!!!! It has a subtle Moody feel to it, with some nice Saxophone invited in....
"Ain't No Way", the 6th Crown Jewel, sounds more Musical than all of the other songs on the album, kind of bringing "Lamont" somewhat back to his '70's hayday....
The final song and Crown Jewel, "Help Is On The Way", is a nice Up Tempo way to close the album....It is EXTREMELY Groovy, with fanstastic Vocals.....
Well, that's it in a nutshell...Again, I am not sure if the public was receptive to this album, all I know that as usual, "Lamont" brought us consistent Music...I also don't know if the Album Revolution ends here or not, I will see....
As I always say, as with his other albums, if you are able to find a copy, give it a shot.......
