This score could easily have won the oscar for 'best music' in 1990, but Tim Burton's 'Batman' was sulked at the ceremony, only getting away with 'best sets' (well deserved for Anton Furst, but he died not too long after).
The score of 'Batman', along with the theme for 'The Simpsons', really help to put Danny Elfman on the map. Elfman himself says he wasn't thinking about how much memorable this score would be when he composed it. In fact, he was conceiving a masterpiece. From the now famous 'Batman Theme' to the 'Finale', the powerful musicality and soul of the music makes it unforgettable. I personally think Elfman have as much talent for film music as John Williams have.
A few more tracks from Elfman in the movie were put apart: the Nicholson/Eckart segment, the TV Theme for the 'Smilex' spot. The Flugelheim museum used Mozart and Percy Faith, but also an orchestral snippet leading to Prince's 'Partyman'. I think they might release a special edition of the score eventually with these additions.
