It would not be wrong to say that this is my favourite album of all time. The complete Plugged Nickel, specifically, because you can really hear what's happening in the band, night after night. You really hear what their process was! And it sits in a sweet spot between the "standards" material this band played before Wayne was in the band, and the actual Wayne albums, which were done in studio and were more "perfect" and tight, you know? This box set is kind of like "the best of" Miles and his bands, if you had to average it all out. And Wayne is mind-blowing on some tracks, like on disc 2a.
By the way, I bought this when it came out in the 90s, in Canada, and I'm so sorry that I threw away the shrink wrap that came on it, because there was a hilarious hype sticker on it, proudly advertising that on the 8 CDs there were 8 different songs haha. Like, they had played each song for a total of at least an hour! Does anyone still have this sticker?? I would love to see what it actually said, again... -
