Found a NM copy of this pressing. Ran it through my ultrasonic cleaning system. It is darn near dead quiet and I agree with the praise below! Very nice hot stampers on this one! Dynamic, crystal clear, beautiful sound staging. It is the best TFTO version I have ever heard. System: Brinkmann Bardo, 12” arm, Acoustical Systems Archon cart, Labs XP15 phono pre, Audio Research Reference One preamp, BAT VK 60 amp, Paradigm Persona 9H speakers, all high end interconnects and isolation used through out.

Edited 10 months agoFavorite Yes release; excellent sounding pressing. I don’t understand the “indulgent” criticism; I find this composition to be rather restrained. Wakeman hardly gets any solo time, for example; now THAT would be indulgent! It’s just a long record with long songs, but long shouldn’t mean indulgent.

Got a copy at market today for only $4. Remarkable sounding pressing. This is how vinyl should sound. I have a few copies but this sounds best for sure. 50 years old, smh...

TFTO catches Yes at a period like many bands that have found success with a certain formula (i.e. the long form multi part symphonic in this case) they had found on previous records. It's well-known that Wakeman didn't care for the record (although he's softened his once harsh position over the years) but taken as a whole, the record has stood the test of time, even gaining in popularity thanks to renewed interest in the band and for progressive rock in general.
This pressing is excellent sounding, even as good if not slightly better than the remastered variants that came years later. It has a warmth and presence that makes it very listenable. Yes, sides three and four are a bit indulgent, but they state pretty clearly in the liner notes that the record was the brainchild of Anderson and Howe. I give the record 9/10 and the sound 10/10. This record must be played LOUD to really appreciate all the nuance contained therein. -
Unfairly derided yet sublimely beautiful glorious musical suites showcasing innovative experimentation & virtuoso musicianship.
THE quintessential epic prog rock album.

Maravilloso!!
