Edited 7 years agoAn absolutely drop-dead gorgeous album of harmonically sophisticated and tearjerking guitar compositions, minimalistically yet artfully woven and executed by Vini Reilly. It's a brief 28 minutes (and the especially short duration of side 2 - with one song being repeated in an alternate mix - really highlights this), but every track is intelligently concise, sucking you into its strikingly immersive world with every next set of multilayered notes Reilly plucks.
I'm serious - TRotDC is that otherworldly. It's that stunning a melancholy display of genuine human emotion.... the instrumentation is almost 'superhuman', as if Reilly had been playing with three pairs of hands at once.
OK, maybe I'm got a little out of control there, but either way, this is essential listening for those who like mellow, laid-back AND throbbing minimalistic music like I do. This gets my easy vote for one of the best albums of 1980.... and the 80's period. It's been an all-time favourite for over a decade, so give it a try if you're in the mood!
