One of the finest jazz sessions you’ll ever hear. Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter and Tony Williams (George Coleman gets the nod on tenor here) made a lot of magic/music together and helped bring jazz to larger audiences. Maiden Voyage has all the makings of a concept LP, a journey of the seas and the mystery of life. It’s just a lovely record, and I’m sure most jazz fans have it on their shelf. A timeless recording that invites the listener to sail off on a journey of their own, imagining the glory that surrounds us.
