Most of my mates at the time back in the early nineties overlooked these tunes, too repetitive, way over most peoples heads etc. I always loved them especially the Burrell Brothers productions. The timing on some of these subtle, delicate little background melodies are amazing. Luv 2 Luv U at 2.45 where the real magic kicks in. The brothers were the best of a very big talented pool of producers at the time. The music has aged so well...

It's definitely not rare to see the Nu Groove tunes made with samples taken from several other well-known classics, and this is the case on A.B.T.'s "I Need It": while the main line is taken from 'Tramaine - Fall Down (Spirit Of Love)' a classic from Larry Patterson & Robert Wright (1985), the Burrells included the vocal samples of Rochelle Fleming "It's Not Over" (from 'First Choice - Let No Man Put Asunder'), and another one, a female whisper ("Uhuuuuh") that is probably from 'Joyce Sims - Come Into My Life'). That's what we should call "a very Honest use of samples".
