This is practically what the original master tape sounded like. Personally, I think other versions such as the OG CD sound a little better, but this IS the master tape's sound so you have to everything else came from sounding like this at some point.

Per Steve Hoffman, this (alongside the rest of the Ultradisc 1 series) are all flat transfers. No EQ at all. This is the closest you'll get to the master tape. If you find it too bassy, that's what it sounded like.

The mastering on this CD is definitely bass-heavy, with a lot of detail hidden in the mix. The 2016 James Guthrie, Joel Plante, and Bernie Grundman remasters are probably the best, though there are some issues with sibilance on those remasters.

The MFSL CD is certainly divided into love/hate. After finally getting a copy of the Japan AP40 vinyl, i have to believe the MFSL CD was mastered with that vinyl pressing in mind. The Japanese vinyl has some serious bass like this CD. I prefer that mastering for this particular album (have had the MFSL CD for a few years now). So I'm definitely in the MFSL digital and Japanese vinyl camp. But my experience is limited to the original US vinyl and CD and the remastered LP and CD (which are also excellent). Dont have other CD or vinyl physical media though I've heard the Harvest CDs. Just don't see the need beyond these two at this point.

I need a replacement slip case only. Anyone willing to sell a spare they don't need?

I really love this pressing of The Wall. While there is a lot of bass, the mids and treble aren't lost. Hearing sounds from the bass and drums I haven't heard before. I have heard the Japanese CDs from the 80s and I believe those are superior in the treble/mids in of clarity. Both are great pressings for different tastes!

This is the closest to the original master tapes as it gets. The original tapes have disintegrated beyond use now.

                Mixed for LP.

I have this. Great collector's item, but is far too bass-y (like a lot of MFSL issues) and is lacking in the higher frequencies, and overall volume.

The "Shine on" and capitol re-issues are the best sounding cd masters of this album.
