Edited 8 months agoAn album that that captures Knopfler's earthy, bluesy, and folk influences featuring a wide range of styles, from delicate acoustic finger-picking to gritty, swampy blues, with occasional Celtic influences all adding texture. My pressing is excellent, wonderfully quiet and flat. Packaging is excellent too, though it would have benefited from a lyric sheet.

Edited 5 years agoJust bought a new one copy at really discount price. No problems with the vinyl .Very nice packaging. Sound balance rather on the lower side. Deep low end, nice middle, delicate highs. Generally speaking - for long non tiring listeninig. And last but not least - musically is really ok. Nothing suprising, and if you like Knopfler's music you will like it.

I just received mine. I played it through, all four sides. I have a pretty decent TT & system. Vinyl was quiet and didn't hear any distortion.
-
I see people mentioning distorted sound on some LP pressings. Well, if you listen to this album on Spotify, you'll notice the same thing. Especially the vocals on the track 'Go, Love'. Sounds like valves (tubes) distorting. Maybe an over compressed microphone or a faulty preamp somewhere?

Mine plays well. Good, quiet pressing, no distortion or other problems with sound. Perhaps I was lucky this time...
-
Please avoid purchasing this particular pressing. The sound quality is almost at the border of distortion on the first LP and second LP side 3 makes a very frequent shrieking sound. By all means, do not spend your money on this pressing.

Edited 7 years agoVery nice songs once more by Sir Knopfler.
But quality of pressings ....... Oh my god..... What are you doing Mercury ?
Do you press with your feet and mashed paper ? A lot of dust, static electricity...... A shame for the price -
This 2 record set is pressed on 180 grams high quality vinyl. Unfortunately, side 2 of record one is off centered. Something this pressing plant (Optimal Media) should avoid as it happens too much. Why is it so difficult to do it right? I mean, we, the customers, pay a lot so we must be assured a satisfying product. Other than that, mastering and packaging are excellent. Also very silent perfect quality vinyl. Nice thick cardboard jacket. Only small omission might be the lack of lined inner sleeves. But perhaps this is a decission not made by the pressing company. Overall three stars out of five.
