Notes
The picture on this cover is the "laughter photo":
Joel Bernstein photographed the trio in serious poses aboard a boat, and initial copies of CSN bore that picture on the cover. The next picture Bernstein took of Crosby, Stills, and Nash was a shot of them breaking into laughter at the thought of just having posed as "serious artists." The trio later decided that they liked the second photo better, and it was decided that all future pressings of CSN should bear the "laughter photo".
The cover is textured, and the cover photo is pasted on.
One hype sticker says "Made in the USA - QualityRecordPressings.com". Another hype sticker bears the Atlantic75 logo and states:
The 75th anniversary of Atlantic Records
75 historic titles hand-picked and supervised by Analogue Productions CEO Chad Kassem
Mastered from the original analog tapes of best available source by the mastering engineers
Cut at 45 RPM and pressed on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl

For packaging, this is up there with the best in my 2500+ collection. The textured tip on gatefold with its integrated "photo" just fills this owner with pride. The pressings are QRP usual.... flat and quiet as standard. The mastering is just short of perfect. Theres no doubt the 45rpm benefits come through vs my Bellman 33 but the top end still has distracting moments. Luckily, the beauty of vinyl replay is how a cart can be used to equalise a mastering that leaves a bit to be desired... swapping out the brighter and slightly aneamic modern AT cart for the olde Shure M75 tames the top end and beautifies the recording simultaneously and its then hard to argue against this press as being anything other than definitive!

Two copies so far, and both have a couple of ticks on "Cathedral" - acceptable for a "normal" pressing, but with these pricey ones, I am not too happy about it. Anyone else?

Sounds phenomenal except for distortion in the cymbals (see Hi-FiLuis ‘s comment below). Not sure if there’s a bunch of defective pressings out there.

Can anyone comment on the pressing quality? Ticks, clicks, pops? Rating rn is relatively low for an ap75

My favorite so far of the Atlantic 75th releases by AP. Simply stunning. Clear separation of the vocals, tight bass, and an absolutely lush presentation. Makes the songs that I used to think were blah to new heights!

Edited 3 months agoAmazing pressing. One of the very best sounding records I own. Fantastic separation, richness, balance and detail. Absolutely stunning. Even better sounding than the debut CSN album on the Atlantic 75 edition, presumably because of the improvements in recording between the years they were cut/or condition of the master tapes. (Although that’s excellent too).

Has anyone noticed some distortion on the right channel at the very beginning of Shadow Captain? I think it is the drummer's brushes. I can't tell whether that is baked into the recording (i.e., on the master tape) or on my copy of the record. Other than that one observation, the record sounds great. Very well defined voices and instruments. A pleasure to listen to the harmonies.

Edited 3 months agoMy initial listening experience having only played this through once is:
Some very subtle groove floor whisper.
Vocals are exceptional. One can listen for and hear each singers’ voice add to the collective harmony blend. Bass lines are nicely sprinkled throughout the songs. Songs that call for more engine room get it, others are vocals/guitar/piano only. Musically this is a great album. Song selections are strong. Again..the harmonies are spectacular. A few more listens may move me to revise this review but for now I’m beyond pleased with this pressing. Packaging is top notch. Tight jacket that we’ve all come to know and “love” with AP releases.
