On a non musical note, the new cover design is way better than the original 1980 release. I doubt the OG release can match this Tone Poet version for sound quality, either. Features a song called "Black Sabbath" that was recorded at least one year before the band of the same name released their debut LP. Pretty metal!

I'm much less impressed by this record than the other commenters. It's got its moments, like the last song, but a lot of it seems to me to be uninspired. Solid, but often predictable, given when it was recorded. Sometimes, these late releases (this was recorded in 1968) are hidden gems, but other times I find myself thinking: I can see why they decided not to release this one.
That said, the pressing is typical for the Tone Poet series: really well done, all around, from the mastering to the actual pressing to the packaging. But there are some really hard to find, obscure Blue Notes that I'd prefer to see and hear. -

Edited one year agoGreat album, great pressing. A fantastic example of what Tone Poet is. Try it out on YouTube or some such to see if you like the music, but there is no denying this album is recorded very well, mixed well, and mastered optimally. A record to show off your system. Can be found for as little as $29 on Amazon at times. (Now, I think?) In any event, worth every penny at retail price.

Just a great record, really high-quality pressing! I recommend to listen and purchase in your collection.

Quiet vinyl, if not entirely silent. Brilliant music. Beautiful gatefold with the extraordinary photos we have come to expect from these Tone Poets. Recorded sound is very good except that it is sometimes difficult to hear the bass in the mix and then at other times it is crystal clear. Piano sound is pretty good, but not as round and full as the very best piano recordings. I really enjoy this album and I expect that I will spin it often.

A sublime jazz recording, Andrew Hill may now be my favorite post-bop artist. It's serious music, but not inaccessible in the least bit. And do I even need to talk about the quality of the pressing? It's Tone Poet, come on now.

Perhaps the most perfect example of a Tone Poet yet. Left of centre music yet very engaging in every way. Great compositions and excellent avant garde jazz.
Perfectly pressed vinyl.
