Beautiful album with a fantastic line up but I was not as fortunate as others. Side one perfect, sections of side two sounds like old dirty vinyl. Ultrasonic cleaned twice. Kinda bummed, you drop $40 bucks and expect better from the Tone Poet series.

Agree 100% with the previous comment that the piano sound is good by Blue Note standards. The record sounds great, and it is a quiet pressing. In of soundstage, Red's horn comes out of one speaker with other elements such as percussion coming out of the other. This is nothing unusual, and it doesn't bother me, but if you have a problem with it, you should on this one. Musically, this tends to slip into the background. It is very pleasant, but it will not disturb your molecules, so to speak.

Very good recording and pressing
Dead quite
Piano is well recorded, for RVG standards
;). Easy listening, good songs throughout

The majority of people here are correct. It is tremendously, astoundingly, ridiculously good. Everything I could hope for in a blue note reish that I will never own an OG copy of until the vinyl market collapses.
-
My copy that I bought several months ago, but just heard it yesterday. It does not sound "tremendous good". From what I read here there seems to be mixed experiences. I wonder .. are the Tone Poet releases overrated? It is not exactly budget price. To me it seems like vinyl quality nowadays are more dubious & less reliable than previous times.

Edited 2 years agoTremendously good. This is top tier Kevin Gray work. An already fantastic record blooms with color through the Cohearent chain on this remaster. Wow. Just get lost in this one.

This album brings me closer to jazz, I'm really not a jazz connoisseur but this album is great music and the recording and pressing as well as the quality of the cover is great.
-
Gorgeous pressing! No issues with my copy. Languid beautiful playing by this young genius who didn't get his share of recognition. Wynton Kelly is sublime. Paul Chambers is masterful and restrained. Roy brooks could easily steal this show but chose not to!
If you're looking for recording realism, you can hear a bit of spit in the reed. Always bugs me a bit, but it's for real!!! -
