Edited 11 months agoOh my God it's so silent in the quiet parts. Fantastically clean vinyl. Lively, dynamic, warm, excellent excellent detail and instrument separation. Good soundstage. I don't think the bass is lacking or anything is thin, but I listen to a lot of classic rock on Japanese pressings so I already have just a tiny bit of bass added on the EQ. It all comes across well balanced. I almost want another copy just to preserve the mint copy I got. It's so perfect I'm afraid to touch it haha.
So I spent some time listening and comparing to lossless digital, various amps, headphones and speakers. Have to say this Japanese pressing is the best sounding source I have. The bass is a bit boosted in the lossless digital flac 44/16. Things get a little muddy. I prefer this record over digital hands down. Kind of amazing really. I have to try the DSD version that's out there but I don't think you're going to get the details from digital here that you will from this record. Odd, but I'm good with it and highly recommend this record.
Also compared to the 2010 US reissue and prefer this one. The 2010 reissue is too boomy with the bass and as a result masks details. Vocals are far better on the Japanese pressing.
Also compared to original Wly pressing. I prefer the Japanese pressing still. Though it's amazing how much more bass was added in to the 2010 re-release. The Wly pressing is close to the Japanese pressing with maybe ever so slightly more bass, but not really. Probably more mid range presence. The vocals, the sparkling highs, and crisp cleanness of the Japanese pressing are what win me over. I'll keep the Wly for regular play, guests, and Japanese for special occasions/collection purposes. So I did get another copy, but this is the definitive one in my opinion. -
Sounds sped-up and sound not great. Ended up buying a orig USA 1976/ EPIC - PE 34188, 34188 (Wally mastered) and now I'm a happy camper. Pretty big difference and worth the upgrade.

Boston's self-titled album on vinyl is a classic rock masterpiece. The sound quality is crisp and clear, showcasing the band's intricate arrangements and soaring guitar solos. The tracks are well-crafted, blending elements of progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal. The vinyl format brings out the warmth and depth of each performance, making this album a must-have for fans of classic rock.

Great overall full dynamic, rich and crisp sound! It has plenty of bass and not bright in my opinion, just right!! It sounds just as good, if not better, than my US Wally pressing and my 1st UK pressing. My copy has slightly different matrix numbers than the listing but it has the same catalog number and obi.

Comparing this to the only other copy I own which is the 2009 European MOV. This Japanese pressing is a bit thin sounding, missing the low end dynamics that the 2009 pressing has plenty of, I’m running dual subs. This Japanese pressing does sound cleaner, open and airy and not as bright, obviously analog compared to a digitally remastered MOV version. A little bump up on the bass knob for the Japanese version is all it takes for it to sound really really good. Then again, the 2009 sounds spectacular as well, just with the digital remastered sound. Cannot go wrong with either one, just know what you’re getting as they couldn’t be more different sounding.

This pressing sounds amazing.
Really quiet and great dynamics especially A3's acoustic section.
Although it is brighter than US pressing, bass is not missed.
Cover is high quality too.
Highly recommend this version -
Edited 7 years agoThis is a fantastic sounding pressing. I can only highly recommend it. I hope to find a US original in good shape soon and A/B 'em.
