Damn, I love this album. Hard charging bop, and what a quintet! Morgan and Shorter are both on fire; check out that title track. Love it.

Just played this back to back with Witch Doctor. Prefer the latter, the songs seems more focused. But great sound on both. Lee Morgan wails on this one btw.

The production as always is top notch. The colors of The Stoughton jacket - together with The Phantom and Oblique - forms a feast for the eyes. The music is well balanced and every instrument can be followed throughout the songs. Just the way I like it. Blakeys’ drumrolls are certainly here. Ping Pong has a craaazy rhythm that nestles in your head the moment you hear it. That being said the choice of songs are a bit mediocre. The musicians perform very well but to me its all kind of the same. Both sides are boppin throughout my listening room and will do great as party music but for a listening session it gets a bit boring. No ballads or exciting stuff on this one. Every collector has to have this in his TP collection but if you just want to choose a couple of TPs and not have them all there are better ones to be had.

Sounds pristine. Fantastic. Bright and boppy. Can't believe it sat on shelf for 9 years.

It’s pretty good, a little disappointed based on all the rave comments.
For the money still can’t be beat. Quiet and flat. 😎

Outstanding in every respect. Fantastic music, masterful performance and sonically the record has a deep full sound, wide dynamic range, instrument separation is perfect.

i can barely believe i'm listening to a 60 year old recording! not quite the first Jazz album I own but such is the quality of probably the one that has opened the floodgates in of buying Jazz records.
