I'm not sure why Blue Note shelved this session. The album's title speaks for itself. One of my favorite Mobley albums.

My pressing is pretty much dead quiet. This record is buttery smooth.
Mobley's sax comes out of the left speaker, and it is as sharp as you can imagine. The drums are in the right channel - good thwarcks and cymbal decay. The typical soft Rudy van Gelder piano is in the middle. Bass comes out of the right channel.
Oervall excellent 5 stars.

I do feel Blue Note has done well with their Tone Poet series. Kudos. I love the sound from this LP on my Rega 6 with DynaVector 10x5 and P75 preamp. I find it amusing when those who musta grown up with CDs or Streaming as their first experience with recorded music playback. It is rare to get a "dead silent" vinyl - the mechanics are against it, with surface (stylus) on surface (vinyl grooves) required in contrast to no- laser reading of 1s and 0's or compressed software delivery. Those of us who encountered vinyl as THE media, generally accept some light surface noise (what (i guess) Millenials oft call Pops, Crackles, Fill, etc) for the much richer analog playback. I have my best/Fav music on vinyl and a good Lumin streamer to use to explore or enjoy stuff I don't want in my physical collection. Legendary acoustic jazz like HM, and others is best on analog, period. Maybe the inexperienced gripes will wane over time...

For the most part this record sounds just wonderful. Very detailed and crisp presentation.
My copy has a short series of very light ticks on Darn That Dream - vexingly the quietest track - a slight imperfection that while certainly noticeable is not distracting enough to want me to seek a replacement. Otherwise this was a good pressing and a worthy Tone Poet release. -
This is remarkable and wonderful. Especially "Darn That Dream" as HM is not known to play standards very often and here is one of his most soulful solos.

I payed 20 euro for this (that's how much the Blue Note Classics and Tone Poet pressings usually cost at the biggest record selling chainstore where I'm at) - it was worth every single cent of it. Great, flat pressing with an unbeatable price/quality ratio. Hurry up and get it while you can. It really gets your head bopping and feet tapping!

1st Tone Poet of about 10 ive got with a defect in the form of a tiny bit of non fill but this is moot because its mercifully inaudible. As others have alluded and par for the series, a quite outstanding recording and mastering imo. The value for money with these TP's is on the button, makes some Mofi and AP stuff seem very overpriced.

The Tone Poet series has delivered again! 180g vinyl is flat and quiet, letting the music shine thru. Unbelievable session with Art Farmer in top form. Sonny Clark has the goods and knows to use them. But seriously, if you like jazz, the Tone Poet series is for you. Everything is superior with this series, from the hi- gloss gatefold covers to the remastering process. And the price is right, too!
