The cover art is mocking on the Us- and Euro-centristic cultural and political concepts of the time symbolised by the Campbells Tomato-soup can by Andy Warhol - I assume.
By now it seems much of the whole worlds culture has been commercialized and technically disciplined? Maybe these and other post `68 sub/ counter-culture artists were the last to seriously try to liberate things in a broad way. -
Edited one year agoThe very coherent follow-up to "Tago Mago" by considering electronic and electro-acoustic experiments in some tracks (at "Soup" more evidently) while in general they keep progressing on songwriting -- the listener can hear all but the 70s -- they provide the kind which cannot be pointed out to any definite decade. A first contemporary indie (rock) album which obviously would have had an impact upon later top chart indie bands like Blur and Radiohead who provided albums where pop rock tunes were alternated with experimental numbers. It's hard to overestimate.
-----------------------------------------------------

Edited 2 years agoThis is a prime example where the tape or vinyl is another world compared with the cd. (I've listened to both German first copies).Warm and evolving. Digital versions make them sound like cold, tick boxing Germans ha ha. As to the songs, yes tracks one and five are too long and meandering but what the funk, the rest of it is way ahead and still sounds fresh 50 years later. Only Can album you can always come back to.

Another masterpiece from Can. Some argue this is somehow less relevant than Tago Mago.
That's a real pity that "I'm so green" and "Spoon" have been heavily edited, probably to fit the album on a single LP (you can also notice how the sound quality of those 2 tracks is inferior, due to the fact that they have been dubbed for editing pourpose).
I can't tell if "i'm so green" has been edited as well. Would be great if the album would be finally presented in all its complete/unedited glory. At that point i'm pretty sure it will be considered in the same league as their (other) masterpiece Tago Mago. -
I have UAS-29414 on both labels, but side B’s run out has UAS-2914 etched with the same NB signature. It’s a clear vinyl with a couple of what look like accidental small spritzes of black near the label spraying outward. I can’t find this copy on here so unless I’m missing something I’ll have to add an entry. Lemme know! Phenomenal pressing by the way, no surface noise and incredible dynamic range.

Anybody else seen/have a version of this album on Blue Marbled vinyl? The CAT# is USA-29414 for mine but it doesn't seem to match up with any of these pressings.

The Vocal of "Vitamin C" was used for the soundtrack of The Get Down precisely for the track "Raury & Jaden Smith Losing Your Mind"
