Cover It looks a bit blurry compared to the OG US, since it is gatefold, but this sound super dope, also have inner sleeves that the original does not have them, something usual in these OG UK editions, if you have the opportunity, grab a copy.

Notice on the cover art: the clock is set to MIDNIGHT. And, is on fire...

Yes, this LP was not received with the same general positivity of 'Midnight Marauders', or 'The Low End Theory'. And that is because of the full U turn in sound & concept made by 'Beats, Rhymes And Life'. And it was no accident.

I can only speculate, but, imagine turning out those 1st x3 LP's. You absolutely could not imagine bettering them. But how much is enough? Maybe the Tribe felt it was time to shift into a different space, maybe they felt it was time for their audience to get something different, before things went overkill. Who knows. Maybe, they were tired of being hero's. I think globally, we all knew times had changed. 1993 seemed a long way back...

Imagine another LP continuing that commercial path, and all the pressure to not disappoint, by equalling some of the undisputed greatest Hip Hop of all time. You'd have to be on top of your game, crazy, and absolutely feeling it.

And so, via 'The Ummah' (collaboration with J-Dee), we received 'Beats, Rhymes And Life'.

And 29 years later, we realize: It's another work of genius, and one that in parts may eventually even age better than its predecessors.

** This UK 1st press Gatefold version sounds SUPERB
