Like Luke, I found a sealed copy in a used bin. I have about a dozen VMP presses, and they vary, but usually solid. This copy has zero surface noise and sounds great, no complaints at at all. I’d take it over my CD and streaming all day. Fantastic album, I think The National at their best, and there’s many versions of their best

Found a sealed copy in the ‘used’ section at a record store, was pretty excited because I’ve got a few VMP pressings that are great. Tracks without surface noise sound fantastic, unfortunately that’s only about 5 of them. This is probably in the bottom 25% of my collection for quality, even though the album itself is amazing.

Just bought one recently and am also happy to report no surface noise, and again, a slight warp due to the included 7". If you can find this one, don't sleep on it, folks.

Edited 5 years agoJust broke the seal on a copy I found in the used bins and am happy to report that there's no background noise at all. A slight warp from the enclosed 7" but otherwise no complaints. Money well spent.

Disappointing press. My disc looked NM, but plays with surface noise on several tracks as well as distortion. Based on here looks like I'm not the only one.

My copy has a fair bit of surface noise, pops and crackles here and there. Left channel has some constant static in a few spots on side A. It sounds okay overall. Nothing to write home about. Gray vinyl is also pretty ugly. Ha ha.

hello,
could you please confirm me that it comes with three 12x12 paper inserts (outside the box)?
what's inside? the code / inner sleeves / lyrics?
thanks and all the best!

A pretty standard pressing from VMP. Sound quality is pretty good. Even with a little surface noise and the usual things, it's not a huge detriment. Music is nice enough, but I've never been too hot on The National in the first place. Packaging is above most standard pressings, but I mean it's not exactly as good as some of the previous months. Record color is a little bland too, but I guess I'll take sound quality over anything else should that be the case. All in all, it's decent release from VMP, but it seems to be more about having the album rather than having a special version of it. They've done better.

Was going to switch this album out since I could never get into this band. So glad I did not do that. Great album and enjoyable listen. Some pops and clicks even after ultrasonic cleaning although it did reduce surface noise substantially.
