Fabulous pressing!! I am surprised that these black label arista didn't get much love from the community. Absolutely agree that the P in the runouts is very very faint

Gil wrote the incredible tune Angola Louisiana after receiving a letter from Gary Tyler's mother. Her 17yo son had been wrongly imprisoned and was on death row in Angola. Gil wrote the song to raise awareness of Gary's plight. The opening and closing lines, were inspired by an old man in a Lower Manhattan park. When asked "How you doing?" He'd respond "I'm doin' fine, I could've been pulling time." Apparently he smoked a lot of ts. Gary Tyler's death sentence was commuted to life in jail without parole and in 1980 the state parole board recommended him for a pardon, however, he remained in custody until 2016. I can't tell you what happened to the old man in the park, but hopefully he happily smoked ts until the end of his days and never did time. Gil is an absolute legend and his music is as relevant today as it ever was.

Superb! I really enjoyed this on and especially its side one with Angel Dust, Cane, Madison Avenue and Better days ahead. Great press with a good price to quality ratio!

Great chill record to put on when drinking Bourbon or dinner with friends.

bought the original Secrets LP because I love my Pieces of a Man CD... I like Pieces of a Man better for sure, that album is immortal. This one needs more repeat listens, and it does bridge the post-2000 work of Heron, which totally surprised me for its electronic weirdness and drony lyrics. There is a lot of funky synth on this album, and drony repetition of one or two lines. I can tell a lot of riffs off this LP seeded the whole vaporwave genre, which I also enjoy. But the musicality and the soulful way Heron would put five notes on a single word in Pieces of a Man, kind of smiling to himself with hope--I want more of his albums like that. This one is a little too intense for the cocktail lounge, but might work for cruising a vacant city in the middle of the night, looking at poverty and wondering why this nation still can't take care of its children.

"Late 2000s Reissue"? So, reissued in the future...like around 2990 or so? :)

This reissue plays incredibly quietly compared to other records in my collection. Would not recommend.
