Jacob Haugaard

Danish comedian, singer, composer, writer, actor, TV host and politician, born 15 May 1952 in Trongisvágur, Faroe Islands. Moved to Denmark in the late 1950's. First career as musician with rock group Midt Om Natten covered one of Haugaards novelty schlagers, "Haveje", for a major hit. Fighting addiction, Haugaard has been inconsistent in his career, but in one of the most surprising events in Danish democracy he won a seat as independent member of Parlament in 1994 after a campaign promising more backwind for bicyclists and bigger Christmas presents, craving - as working is healthy - that jobs should be restricted for the sick, and demanding more renaissance furniture in IKEA shops. After four years as MEP in 1998 he returned to (real) showbiz.
