Metal is probably my favourite Gary Numan track in both sound and theme. Sometimes, I like to play just this song, so because it is the B side on this “Cars” single – this is the pressing to have!

Metal is less reliant on the synthesiser than Cars and tighter on the beat, very controlled, a great dance track. Because of this tone, the song is more robotic in sound, perfect for the fun SF lyrics about the meeting point of man and machine – very ‘Gary’.

I think this is pretty much the only way you can realistically have 'Metal' as a single vinyl. Floating around, there is a Phillipines jukebox 7” vinyl pressing of Metal, 24 August 1979, but it “failed” – copies are rare.

Absolutely STUNNING sound quality on this pressing. And that goes for the b-side as well. (Who needs all these modern remasters? ) Just absolutely STUNNING.

I have a version with the same characteristics, but the vinyl print does not have that "image", it is only blue with the logo "Beggars Banquet"

Is there a chance that the timings are accidentally switched on the labels? The album versions of Airlane and Cars would match a reversal of the times per labels. Perhaps an owner of this could play, time and confirm the actual times.
